Sophia symposium: Psychosocial Care for Children and Youth after Conflicts and Disasters: Peacebuilding Efforts through Creative Activities and International Exchange
Sophia University United Nations Weeks October 2025

The work was created during a collaborative workshop Exploring Global Issues in Local Communities Through Peace Pedagogy and Collaborative Art: From Problems to Dialogue, from Canvas to Solutions. The workshop was held together with Larisa Kasumagic-Kafedzic and involved the following Sophia University students: Akari Kita, Yoshino Arita, Nozomi Masumori, Nagomi Hashimoto, Noi Enomoto, Nodoka Kunugi, Yuina Hirose, Sachi Tanaka, Mito Sasaki, and Rin Yoshida. It was organized by professor Komats Taro with support from master’s students in the course on International Educational Development, Akane Sasaki and Jamila Kazimova.

This diptych visualizes a call for equity and fundamental social change. It champions women’s political empowerment and fosters empathy, inclusion, and dialogue across Japanese society, challenging conventional meritocracy to celebrate unconstrained dreams and goals. Panels can be arranged in two ways and both perspectives would be correct as all the goals can have multiple approaches and solutions.
