Volume I: Masters 23.05 – 13.06.2013. Sarajevo

The official exhibition announcement:

Muhamed Kafedžić – Muha: 100 Views of Ukiyo-e, Volume I: Masters

The City Gallery Collegium Artisticum, May 23 – June 13, 2013

In the City Gallery Collegium Artisticum there will be an exhibition of the paintings under the title 100 Views of Ukiyo-e, Volume I: Masters, by Muhamed Kafedžić.

Muhamed Kafedžić explores the processes of translation amongst media, stylistic techniques, epochs and culture. The question of the artistic process has a critical relevance from the beginning of the modern arts (Impressionism and Postimpressionism), to Pop Art and contemporary media in arts. His own unique response to this question Muhamed Kafedžić finds in the recognition of the universal aspects of the Japanese Ukiyo-e views (the images of the floating world). The very concept of the state of floating, inconsistent beauty, which constantly transforms itself anew, is summarized in the visual symbol of the famous Great Wave by Hokusai. Ukiyo-e themes encompass the topics of landscape, theatre and everyday scenes, erotic sights and portraits. By translating the original sceneries into his own paintings, whose colors and dimensions totally absorb the spectator, Muhamed Kafedžić is attempting to transpose the artistic enthusiasm as the basis for the artistic creation and vitality of the artistic process of transformation.

This series of painting 100 Views of Ukiyo-e, Volume I: Masters is divided into four sets, each of which consists of twenty five canvases, including the forms of diptych and triptych. Volume I: Masters is the first set of paintings representing the Ukiyo-e masters, styles and themes.

The exhibition will be open on Thursday, 23 May, 2013 at 7.00 p.m. The artist’s work will be introduced by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Krzović, and Branka Vujanović, a curator at the City Gallery Collegium Artisticum.
